Mom

I talked to Mom today
and she spoke of her
apartment above our garage
the one that has yet to be built

We can't afford to tear down
the crumbling, shifted, leaning
garage at the rear of our property
but my mother has plans.

We can't afford to repave the drive
or install a new gauge on the oil tank
or have the driveway sealed for the winter
or buy the perennials to populate the garden

But my mom has plans
to sell her house
and move up here
with us. Above the garage.

I guess we had better enjoy it
now while we can
because the peace may well be broken,
by my mother, eventually.

It's good that i love her like i do.
