This is commentary, not poetry.

Hours thriving on the despair
of people whom exist, to me, solely on TV.

Their homes are burning.
Their homes are under water.
Their homes slid down the bluff.
Their homes blew away in the wind.

How do I watch this
with morbid fascination?

When do we get ours?
When do I get to practice my skills.
I have been studying and paying attention.

Of course,
I know I need all of the recommended resources:

Cash
Water
Blankets
Canned Goods
Generator
Spare Fuel
Flashlights
Batteries

Unfortunately, I don't seem to have them.

Nor do I have a gun, to protect
all of the things I do not have.

Maybe I should get one of those.
Then it will make sense to get the rest.

Hard to miss...

Consumed by needs, filled by voids,
reaching for longitudes that make sense.
Overwhelmed by consumption.
Whipped, far too gently, by deadlines.

Timing.

Do some needs go unmet,
empty dreams, likely forgotten,
donating their time to the more fortunate?

Luck.

Dealing the river,
realizing the chance.
Everything bends
around choices
made by me.
